“A great first step to build a firm foundation”

Jeff & Angie have been teaching music & art in Newton County since 1993.  We believe that laying a firm foundation for each student is essential for future growth and development in the arts.  We have written and designed each course to meet the needs of the 21st century student and our courses are in constant revision to meet the changing needs of today’s students.

We want to inspire and challenge our students to become the artists that they want to be with fun, educational, entertaining and enlightening lessons that lay the groundwork for a life long love of music and art.  We offer parents an opportunity to give their kids an exciting experience in the fine arts without an expensive investment.  This allows students to live out their goals in the area of fine arts and gives them the knowledge and power to pursue a challenging experience worthy of their time.

We will guide each student as they take their first steps in exploring the technique and skills needed to progress in their chosen art from.  These courses are filled with plenty of hands on experience in the students’ chosen art form.   Each course also includes fun activities such as exciting songs, composer spotlight, music theory, reinforcement activities & games, movement opportunities, instrument demonstrations, voluntary in-class performances, interesting resources, composing, music history and listening assignments.

Designed for the kid on the go, you don’t need to bring anything.  We’ll provide all the instruments and supplies during the class.  You’ll provide the instrument for home use but you will not need to bring it to class.

Where are you located?

Our studio is located at our home:  6210 Linwood Drive, Covington, GA 30014.

Do I have to wait until the start date or can I jump into a class now?

You can join our ART classes anytime.  For all other classes you'll have to wait until the start date.

Do I need to know how to play before I come?

No.  We assume that all of our students have never played before.  We love true beginners.  If you have already played before then you can still come and see if this is the right fit for your level.

Do I need a guitar/keyboard?

Yes.  You’ll need an instrument for the student to practice at home.  You will not need to bring anything to the classes.  We’ll provide all the supplies, books, guitars and keyboards for in-class use.

Where can I find an instrument?

There are several local music stores in the area.  Our students also find instruments at local retail stores and on the internet.  No need to buy something fancy.  Any beginning level instrument will work.  We want to keep the initial investment low so you can jump in and start having fun.

Will there be a book for the guitar and keyboard classes?

Yes.  A book for use at home is included in the course fee.  We’ll provide the same book during class so there is no need to bring yours from home.

What ages?

Six years old and older.  Although our target audience is younger students, we do accept older students and adults.

What if my child is younger than the age listed?

These are target ages and we do make exceptions when we can.

If I miss a class can I make it up?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer makeup classes because we don't have time in our busy schedule.  We suggest that you study the calendar carefully before signing up for the class.  This will insure that you can make all 10 dates.  If you're sick don't worry.  The classes are designed to move very slow.  Each week we review the old material and learn the new material so it's easy to catch up.  And don't forget you can always call or email if you have questions.

Should I get my child a full size acoustic guitar?

It depends on the size of your child.  Most elementary students do well with a 1/2 size or 3/4 size guitar.  Have your child go with you to a music store and a salesman can tell you what size will best fit him/her.

My child has a "toy" guitar, will that work?

Usually not.  They don't stay in tune very well and that can be very frustrating.  We'll take a look at it if you want us too and let you know if it will work.

What about student behavior?

We have very high standards for student behavior.  If you feel that your child’s behavior is not suitable for a class setting then you may prefer private lessons.  There are several locations in the area that provide private lessons.  We reserve the right to refund course fees if we feel that a student may be better served with a private teacher.

What will you do in a typical class?

A typical class might include an opening song, explanation of new material, spotlight on a composer, practice time on new material, reinforcement game/activity, music theory and end with a performance of new material by volunteers.

Will there be a performance at the end of the course?

We do a lot of in-class performances throughout the course.  We do reserve extra time in class ten of each course for students to perform for themselves and their families.  Typically it’s the last fifteen minutes of class ten.

Can I take multiple classes?

Sure, we have many students who do more than one class at a time.

Can I take all six classes?

Absolutely!  At the end of the 10 week course schedule you’ll have an opportunity to pick your next class from any of the course offerings.  As a returning student you’ll have first choice to reserve space in the course of your choice.

What do I do after I’ve taken your “Masterpiece Making” class?

Many of our students continue with this art class continuously.  We offer it three times per year and each course is different filled with diverse projects for students to explore and create.  Give us a call and we’ll tell you what’s on the menu for our next art class.

What do I do after I’ve taken your beginning keyboard class?

We will refer you to a local private teacher who will be able to teach to your student’s specific needs in a one-on-one setting.

What do I do after I’ve taken your beginning guitar/rock band classes?

Our students really enjoy our guitar/rock band classes and usually take all three (The Real Rock Band, Lightning Lead Guitar & Rockin’ Rhythm Guitar).  After you’ve had all three then we will refer you to a local private teacher who can address your specific needs in a one-on-one setting.
